BUSINESS & MOTHERHOOD
IN CONVERSATION WITH:
Alexa Baigent
We speak to LIÁN LOU muse Alexa Baigent on how she came to live in Biarritz, France, her motherhood journey so far and launching a new business catered to encouraging mindfulness in our youngest generation.

What does your morning look like?
Most mornings for me start with getting up with my 2-year-old daughter - Rudie. I love our slow mornings together…I make myself coffee and her breakfast, we listen to music and play before then getting us both ready for the day.

How did you come to live in Biarritz, France?
My partner opened a Café in the area about 6 years ago now. At the time I was working in London in Fashion PR and had no plans to move abroad but then the opportunity came along to move to France. I was hesitant at first but then decided to take a leap and join him – I’m so happy I did!
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to live abroad?
I think living abroad gives you such an invaluable life experience – the memories you create, the people you meet and the lessons you learn. I really would recommend it to anyone, even if just for a short period of time. For anyone hesitant due to the fear of the unknown – I would say you will never regret giving it a go, but you may regret not trying at all….
How do you celebrate Christmas in France, is it different from back home in the UK?
We usually come back to the UK for Christmas time to be close to our friends and family. This year, we will be spending Christmas in France for the first time as a family. I’m looking forward to creating my own family traditions and being at our home in France.

Congratulations on becoming a new mum! How do you juggle motherhood with jobs?
Thank you! I’m fortunate enough that the French childcare system is incredible. In France, you are very much supported as aworking mum through the affordable childcare and availability. As I work for myself, this also enables me the flexibility ofworking around Rudie’s schedule. It’s definitely a challenge living abroad without the support of family to help but I’m luckythat I have an amazing network of friends in the area that are always there to lend a hand.

How would you describe your personal style?
I like to wear pieces that feel effortless, refined and comfortable. I love oversized silhouettes and minimal wardrobe classics
What is your favourite piece from our Debut collection?
I love the whole collection! My favourites are definitely the Lucien Shirt in Gingham and Assure Blazer. You can never have toomany great shirts and blazers in your wardrobe.
What have you learnt about yourself recently?
That it’s important to believe in the path I’m on and to trust the process – everything will always work out.

Are you working on any exciting new projects that you’d love to share with us?
I’ve recently launched a new lifestyle brand called Beginnings with one of my closest friends. It’s been a project we’ve wanted to bring to life for over a year and are so excited to finally make it happen. Beginnings creates purposeful products that encourage and support a more mindful way of living in the simplest form. Our first product is Journal Cards for kids; a set 40 fun questions for kids to write, draw and explore the answers. The questions are focused around the mind, body and nature – allowing kids to connect to their emotions and feelings. We really believe in the importance of mindful living and hope to continue to create products for both kids and adults.
